We have celebrated Earth Day since 1970. That is 50 years of the planet’s largest civic event which has led to half a century of environmental activism. For decades, we have been warned about catastrophic and irreversible effects from our inadequate environmental policies. We are the reason our earth is increasingly inhospitable.
I implore you to reflect on what you see. Now that people have minimized their day-to-day activities, the evidence is clear. We can and are dramatically reducing the levels of pollutants in the air and water. The smog above our cities has lifted. Energy and CO2 usage have been vastly curtailed.
Humanity is capable of altering the course of climate change. ([link removed])
The United Nations has pleaded for world leaders to take climate change seriously, determining that we have less than twelve years before we lock in irreversible climate interruption.
I will continue to fight for progressive environmental justice legislation that includes:
* A national Single-Use Plastics Ban by 2030
* The Green New Deal
* Ending subsidies such as those to factory farming (one of the main contributors to greenhouse gases) or the oil and gas industry and instead promote regenerative agriculture practices and green energy.
I’m running against an incumbent who has dragged her heels when it comes to protecting not only NY-12, but the country from this climate crisis. My district is surrounded by the East River which rises at 1.5x the national average rate. And still, no drastic measures have been taken.
On this 50th Earth Day, can you chip in $5 to send me to Washington and fight for our planet before it’s too late? ([link removed])
