Dear John,
I want to start by condemning the horrific assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life last weekend. My thoughts go out to those killed and injured. Political violence is unacceptable and un-American, and I am relieved that former President Trump was not more seriously injured. We must work together to stop the divisive rhetoric in our nation. We can disagree on policy – that is a sign of a healthy Democracy – but it should never turn to violence. Now, more than ever, we must recognize the importance of working together to bring our communities the bipartisan solutions they need. That is my continued commitment to each of you. For my regular update to each of you, this week has been a district work week. That means no votes in Washington, just getting caught up on several local issues in the district. I spent time meeting with local leaders, small business owners and community advocates from around the Second District and in our regular monthly town hall. Yesterday I held my 67th town hall since taking office. I love hearing from constituents and answering your questions about the work I’m doing in Congress. This month, I was joined by Jessie Martinez from DARTS. We held a productive discussion on how we can continue to strengthen our Social Security and Medicare programs for Minnesota seniors.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Discussing improvements in Scott County
I met with Scott County’s Mayors and city administrators to discuss how we can keep working to secure common-sense investments to strengthen our communities & make Minnesota a better place to live and do business.
Reducing addiction-related challenges
I visited New Seasons Dakota Treatment Center to get a firsthand understanding of the addiction-related challenges facing our communities. I'm working to ensure the necessary substance use disorder recovery tools & resources are available to the folks that need them.
Holding Big Pharma accountable While Minnesotans are struggling to afford the life-saving medication they need, Big Pharma is raking in record profits. This has to stop.
That’s why I’m leading a bill to eliminate tax breaks for Big Pharma’s prescription drug advertisements.
Behind the Scenes with Rep. Craig
This week I opened my Fall 2024 internship application. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in public service and want to serve the communities of Minnesota’s Second District. If you would like to apply, please go here to learn more.
This is one of my current interns, Jack! He is a great addition to our office and is learning the ropes of legislating (and answering your phone calls) in DC. I hope you enjoy your weekend!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
