The attempted assassination of President Donald Trump on Saturday was a sad day for our country. President Trump said it himself: he is here only by the grace of almighty God.

While we praise God for his protection over President Trump, we must also reflect on how we got here and our need to quell the rise of political divisiveness throughout our great nation. We are Americans before we are Republicans or Democrats. We have differences, but it should never come to political violence in our Republic.

President Trump said it best this week in Milwaukee: "But as long as our energies are spent fighting each other, our destiny will remain out of reach. And that’s not acceptable. We must instead take that energy and use it to realize our country’s true potential — and write our own thrilling chapter of the American story."

President Trump is a great friend of mine and an even better president who has done so much for our country. Despite constant attacks, including impeachments, sham convictions, and now an assassination attempt on his life, nothing will stop him and his agenda of putting America first. He is a fighter that is for sure. 

Our hearts remain with the family of Corey Comperatore, the husband and father who sacrificed his life to save his family, and with the two victims who were left wounded. 

I am grateful we live in a God-fearing nation. In times of crisis, our country has always turned to the Lord and prayed for strength, guidance, and healing. We must come together to remember what divides us as a country will never outweigh what unites us. May the Lord be near at this time.
