# More than 2.5 million LGBTQ adults are parenting children under the age of 18

Our
new study ([link removed])
finds that 18% of LGBTQ people, roughly 2.57 million adults, are parenting minor children in their households. The study also finds that about 14% of same-sex couples (167,000 couples)--including almost one in five married same-sex couples (18% or 119,000 couples)--are parenting children under 18 in their homes.

An estimated 5 million children are being raised by an LGBTQ parent, including 2 million who live in an LGBTQ single-parent household and nearly 300,000 who are being raised by parents in same-sex couples. Nearly one-third of LGBQ parents are not legally recognized or are unsure about their legal status as the parent/ guardian of at least one child at home.

On July 10, the McDonald/Wright Chair of Law Faculty Director Faculty Director Cary Franklin joined a panel of legal scholars for a lively discussion on the major decisions from the Supreme Court's recent term and their future implications on gun rights, reproductive rights, presidential immunity, and the power of the administrative state.

Politics is inextricably intertwined with a lot of big constitutional questions about what equality means and what liberty means.

# We're hiring a Judicial and Legal Education Director & Scholar

The Williams Institute is seeking an experienced director to lead the Institute's educational programming for judges, lawyers, law students, and the public. The Director will also be responsible for running three of the Institute's premier annual programs: the Williams Institute Moot Court Competition, the Dukeminier Awards Journal, and the Institute's Annual Update Conference. After the second year in the position, the Director will teach a course at UCLA Law focused on sexual orientation, gender identity, and the law.
