Driving cattle downtown

This week we got to join our favorite event as Governor and First Lady – the Days of ‘47 Cattle Drive through downtown Salt Lake City! We grew up on farms in rural Utah, so it is great to reconnect with our roots, even among skyscrapers. We look forward to the Days of ‘47 festivities each year because it reminds us of our pioneer heritage, and brings Utahns together. 

Utah is a special place. And our founders were correct when they declared “This is the place.” We hope you find time to join in on Pioneer Day festivities by attending one of the many parades and rodeos happening in Utah this upcoming week!

Time to use your Fire Sense 

July has been a busy month for wildfires in our state. Multiple fires of 100 acres or more have burned across the state. The largest fire is the Silver King Fire, which impacts Piute County and has burned over 17,000 acres. This summer, the weather trend calls for hot and dry weather, which will keep our wildfire risk high. The amount of human-caused fires this year are at the highest they've been in the last three years. Continue using your Fire Sense, Utah!

Learning at the NASS Conference

Last week, Lt. Gov. Henderson met with Secretaries of State and Lieutenant Governors from other states at the National Association of Secretaries of State Summer Conference. The Lt. Governor always enjoys hearing ideas on how offices in other states are run.

As a member of the Elections Committee at NASS, she presented on Utah's Independent Election Advisor role during elections.

Visiting with county clerks and auditors

During a retreat for Utah's County Clerks and Auditors, Lt. Gov. Henderson traveled down to Kanab to talk with them and show our appreciation for their hard work. Our administration is proud of the job our clerks, poll workers and auditors do to ensure fair and safe elections.

Summer safety tips 

Temperatures are rising across Utah, and outdoor enthusiasts need to practice responsible recreation when visiting Utah's state parks and other outdoor areas. 

• Always check the weather, temperature, and other park conditions before getting on the road. 

• Ensure you have enough water, electrolytes, food, and appropriate gear for your activity.

• Visiting the outdoors with a friend or family member is also a great way to share the fun while having another person there with you to call for help or assist you if needed. 

• Stay vigilant to changing conditions, and always recreate within your ability.

• Last week we held our last convening as chair of the National Governors Association. We discussed our Disagree Better initiative, and how we must turn down the political temperature.
