Just like coronavirus, climate change is hurting Black and Brown communities the most.

Tune in to a special edition of the #WalkoutWednesday live stream >>

It's #WalkoutWednesday, John, and workers are walking off the job to demand coronavirus protections, fair pay, and paid sick leave.

It's also "Earth Day," so workers are taking action worldwide to demand solutions to our climate crisis that puts our communities at risk and threatens my sons' futures.

I live on a poverty wage working at McDonald's, always thinking about how I'm going to scrape together enough money for rent. Climate change feels like a far away problem until it comes knocking at my door. Nobody is coming to save us, so it's up to us to have each others' backs.

Check out this week's #WalkoutWednesday live stream to hear updates from workers and organizers fighting on the front lines of both crises >>

Just like coronavirus, climate change is hurting Black and Brown communities the most.

I live in Missouri. Our usual spring rains have turned into historic spring floods.

What am I supposed to do if my home gets flooded? What time or money do I have to deal with that? McDonald's won't even give me paid sick leave so I can protect myself from a virus we know is deadly. I have no doubt they wouldn't give me time off or enough pay to be able to manage.

I have two kids at home. One of my sons has autism. My other son had a brain tumor. I'm their caregiver, so I'm always worried about paying tomorrow's bills, but I'm also worried about their future.

I don't want to be part of the first generation of parents and grandparents to know, without a doubt, that our kids are going to have it worse off on this planet than we did.

Our fight isn't just about an hourly wage. It's about the richest nation on Earth doing right by its people. It's about holding corporations accountable for how they treat people and the planet. It's about helping the people who need help the most.

So check out the #WalkoutWednesday live stream and then check out Earth Day Live – a youth-led online event, featuring artists, musicians, and activists, starts today and goes on for three days straight.

In solidarity,
