Folks,
Last night, the Senate passed the latest coronavirus relief legislation and I’m proud to say they included my bill that would mandate the CDC collect racial data on COVID-19.
Because the hard truth is that African Americans are dying at higher rates from COVID-19.
Centuries of racist health and economic policies have caused communities of color to die from this disease at alarming rates. The racism, poverty, and structural inequalities that exist in our health care system have never been so clear.
As the bill moves to the House, it is critical that my colleagues swiftly pass this legislation so we can start collecting the data we need to help communities hit hardest by this public health crisis.
That’s why I’m personally asking if you’ll sign my petition today calling on the House to pass the latest coronavirus relief legislation that includes my bill on releasing racial data. [[link removed]]

Communities of color are less likely to be able to afford staying home and social distancing. They’re disproportionately in low-wage jobs with less access to health care or have been laid off and lost their coverage. They’re exposed to air pollution at higher rates and disproportionately suffer from asthma, making them particularly vulnerable to this virus.
We must address this reality if we hope to protect communities of color during this unprecedented and difficult time.
Thank you for signing.
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
