Venezuela’s High-Stakes Election: A Conversation with Presidential Candidate Edmundo González

For the first time in more than a decade, Venezuela’s opposition could gain power through democratic elections. Nicolás Maduro has committed to holding national elections on July 28 and the opposition candidate, retired diplomat Edmundo González, enjoys a large lead in polls. Sudan at a Crossroads: Addressing the Largest Internal Displacement Crisis in the World

Years of protracted crisis in Sudan led to a full-scale civil war last year when fighting broke out between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. This resulted in the largest internal displacement of people in the world, in a region that hosts 10% of the world's refugees. The Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative, in partnership with Islamic Relief USA and the Africa Program, explore solutions.

“Half of all South Africans were born after Mandela’s election and the end of apartheid. They are, as South Africans call them, the Born Free Generation.
