Β
John, Can you spare five minutes to help us fix the broken water industry? Β With a new government in place, weβre jumping into action to call on MPs across the UK to commit to a public inquiryΒ that will urgently reform the sewage system. Β But we canβt do this without your help. To ensure the government hears our demands, we need as many of us as possible to contact our MPs and urge them to protect our wild waters. It just takes a few clicks, so will you take action for the ocean today? So much has changed in the last month, John. Two weeks ago, we woke up to learn that the political landscape around us had radically shifted. Β On the face of it, our new government is saying a lot of the things weβve wanted to hear for a very long time. Β In his first week, Steve Reed MP (our new environment minister) announced measures to take the water companies to task, and on Wednesday the government announced plans in the King's Speech for a Water Bill to reform the sector. Β However, we know real change is brought about by actions not words. Β This is why weβre calling on the government to set up a public inquiry that has the authority to set the UKβs path towards zero sewage pollution in bathing waters by 2030. Β Our vision is for this to be a public inquiry mandated in law and equipped to action clear policy changes within the first year of the new government. Β This is where you come in, John! You can add your voice to our call for a public inquiry by contacting your MP today. Β Weβve created a quick and easy email template that you can use to reach out to your MP. This template is also customisable, so you can add in your local context to help drive the message home of why we need serious action to end sewage pollution. Β Thanks for your support. Together, let's demand an end to sewage pollution.Β For the ocean,Β πRob, Campaigns Manager |
