This week, I had the opportunity to meet with more local recipients of Community Project Funding and other exciting new investments. Our federal government is making needed investments in the great work taking place in the community. Here is a quick recap of my visits:

On Tuesday, I stopped by the J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA in Lawrenceville. Last year, I secured $2 million for facility upgrades through a Community Project Funding award. It was wonderful to see those upgrades in action and spend time with summer campers!

Wednesday morning, I joined officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the University of Georgia Archway Partnership for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the start of a community garden at Change Church in Duluth, one of six new planned investments across our state. Funding for this garden was made possible by a $43 million nationwide food systems investment supported by the American Rescue Plan Act and other relief legislation. I can't wait to see how gardens like the one at Change Church help make nutritious food more accessible and affordable for all.

Summer may be winding down, but at Corners Outreach, students are hard at work while still having fun! I was delighted to spend some time with the students of Corners Academy and their teachers, as well as bring them some new books from the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program! Corners Outreach does so much to care for our young people and make sure that they continue to learn during the summer months, and I was proud to support their new community center with a Community Project Funding award!

Finally, I convened a conversation focused on women veterans with officials from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Georgia Department of Veteran Services, health care providers, and veterans in our community to discuss the experiences and unique needs of our region's growing population of women veterans. I come from a family of veterans, and I am committed to doing all that I can to ensure our nation fulfills our obligations and upholds the promises we make to all who served in our armed forces.
