The work to protect democracy starts now.

I want to be clear with you about what is happening right now, ACLU Supporter.
After he lost the 2020 election, former President Trump allegedly tried to use the Justice Department to overturn the results - and has since been charged with attempting to use his office to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power.
Now, the Supreme Court has granted Trump at least presumptive immunity for any official acts – a vague but devastating ruling that places presidents above the law and could give a free pass to these actions if the lower courts deem them "official".
And this isn't just about Trump. The Court's ruling means that any president could abuse their powers to break the law without criminal consequences. Never has there been a time in our history where our democracy was more threatened. Never has there been a time in our history where the ACLU's work was more necessary.
We're calling on Congress to pass a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's ruling, we're detailing our plans to hold the next president – whoever wins in November – accountable, and we're challenging voter suppression laws and unjust maps to make sure we have a free and fair election.
We are doing every single thing in our power to protect our democracy, our civil liberties, and our country. And we need you with us.
If you're worried about the future of our democracy or the rampant attacks on our civil liberties, the best thing you can do right now is to donate to fund our work. <[link removed]>
We aren't waiting until after this election – the work starts now, and we need you with us to keep up our urgent work as we continue showing up every day, just as we have done for more than 100 years.
In solidarity,
The ACLU Team
