Hi John --
Inflation has fallen to 3.3 per cent for the year to July 2024 – a
three-year low. This shows we are turning our economy around and comes
a week after food prices fell for the first time in nearly six
years.
This is welcome news for Kiwis, but National understands so many
people are still struggling through the cost of living crisis.
More help is on the way with tax relief taking effect from the end
of July, allowing Kiwis to keep more of their own money and easing the
cost of living further for low and middle income families.
Our tax relief package will see average income households up to
$102 a fortnight better off, plus FamilyBoost childcare payments of up
to $150 per fortnight for eligible families with young children.
You’ll see it on your payslip in a few weeks but if you haven’t
already found out how much you’ll save our tax relief package, check
out the tax calculator at budget.govt.nz/taxcalculator
We’re proud to deliver the first tax relief for Kiwis since 2010
but this is just one part of our plan to rebuild the economy and ease
the cost of living.
We’re also getting rid of the hurdles standing in the way of
getting houses and infrastructure built and we’re pursuing more
opportunities for Kiwi businesses to trade with the world and grow
jobs and incomes here at home.
Good news, but more work to do!
Thank you, Christopher
