Dear John,
A couple of weeks ago, we tried a new idea. We took our podcast show, The Coffee Klatch, which I do weekly with executive director of IMCA Heather Kinlaw Lofthouse, and did a “watch-along” of the Presidential Debate LIVE with tens of thousands of viewers.
Maybe you were one of them?
It was quite a night. And despite the many ways that night was difficult to take in, from President Biden’s stumbling to Donald Trump’s relentless lies, we managed to get through it together.
So we’ve decided to do it again! Tonight! In just a few hours, Donald Trump will take the stage at the Republican National Convention and give his nomination acceptance speech, the first-ever convicted felon to do so.
Will Trump actually try to unite the country like he says he will? Will he surprise the world by calling for a ban on assault weapons? Or will he resort to the same old lies, Democrat bashing, and dangerous rhetoric? I’d put my money on the latter.
Let’s be real: This is going to be hard to watch! No one should watch it alone.
Let’s get through this together. Heather and I will be watching Trump’s speech tonight starting with a pre-show at 10pm ET / 7pm PT, commenting and fact-checking as we go.
It’s not going to be easy, but fact-checking Trump is more important than ever, and we’ll be doing it real time.
We promise to keep it as light as we can. We might even have a few laughs. At the very least we’ll lean on each other as we watch.
We’ll get started with our commentary at 10pm ET / 7pm PT.
But just a reminder: You’ll have to bring your own libations -- whether you’ll want some coffee, or need something a little stronger!
