Hi John,

It’s Coby, Will’s Campaign Manager.
  1. Online grassroots fundraising is a huge part of our quarterly fundraising. In the second quarter, we outraised Calvert by almost $400,000 among grassroots donors who gave $199 or less (that’s a lot of people reading and contributing through emails like this one!).

  2. Therefore, we can’t afford any slowdowns in our online grassroots fundraising, which is why we carefully monitor which fundraising emails perform the strongest and optimize our program accordingly.

  3. I often hear from our biggest supporters that they’d love to hear more positive updates about the campaign through these emails (you’ve heard about Calvert’s extremism and wealthy friends time and time again).
As a campaign, we’re always doing our best to listen to you, the grassroots team that is the backbone of our campaign. So I’ve got some positive updates — and if this email is a top-performer for our campaign, we’ll send more emails like this one!

But first, John, as always, I’m politely asking for a contribution of $3 or more. We wouldn’t keep asking if we didn’t have to, but your sustained grassroots support is the only way we’ll beat Calvert. Please chip in what you can:

Okay, on to the updates…

We’re leading in cash-on-hand. The second quarter reports also demonstrated that our campaign has $1.1 million more in the bank than Calvert. And we have more cash-on-hand than any House challenger in America (wow!). But, with running against a 30-year incumbent, we need to keep growing our lead.

The press know that CA-41 is a key district on the House map and are paying attention. In just the past month, the LA Times published a great feature story on our race entitled “Veteran Republican congressman's reign in Riverside County under siege.” And MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart hosted Will on his prominent national Sunday show.

We’ve expanded our field operation quickly. We have offices open on both ends of the district, now have five full-time Field Organizers, and just knocked our 10,000th door as a campaign this year!

Phone bankers filling the room at the Palm Desert field office.

John, Election Day is just over 100 days away, and we’re feeling cautiously optimistic about our chances in November. We feel it on the ground, hear it from voters, and know our momentum is building. But, the hardest work is yet to come.

So let’s take stock of all of the good that is happening in our campaign, never take a single thing for granted, and keep our foot on the gas to win this election. The stakes are far too high — and the consequences too great. That’s why I’m asking for your $3 contribution to power us forward before you close your inbox.

P.S. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s email. I enjoyed writing it. These “P.S.” lines might be gimmicky, but they always help drive in a few more contributions! So please contribute what you can here and let’s elect Will.
