Storm damage update
storm
The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Oswego on July 15 from the Oswego Township Cemetery on the west, passing over the Public Works Facility on the east. Our Public Works team continues to prioritize collecting brush in areas that have the most damage from the tornado.
Starting Monday, Public Works will resume regular brush collection in Zone B while collecting storm damage debris throughout the rest of the Village.
NOTE: By Monday, July 22, place all your brush on the parkway, not in the street, and follow the Village’s brush guidelines: www.oswegoil.org/brush [ [link removed] ]. Please be patient as our crews work to clear brush from the entire village over the next two weeks.
Bonus: The Village has an abundance of free mulch available 24/7 at the Public Works Facility located at 100 Theodore Drive behind Oswego High School. Unfortunately, our staff is not available to help load your vehicle. Mulch helps soil retain water and prevent weed growth which makes it an excellent cover for flower beds and gardens.

Slow down Oswego
police
During the first week of July, the Police Department stopped 15 drivers for speeding 26-32 mph over the posted speed limit. Not only is this illegal with a mandatory court date and a fine up to $2,500.00, it is also dangerous. Almost half of those stopped were Oswego residents. Safer streets start with our communities, and slowing down is critical.
To reduce speeding throughout the month of July, the Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to step up enforcement efforts across the state to reduce speeding throughout the month of July. Motorists can expect increased patrols looking for speeding, as well as other traffic violations. This speed enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.

$3 million bond payoff
bond paid off
At its July 16 meeting, the Oswego Village Board approved paying off $3 million in bonds [ [link removed] ] using a general fund surplus from fiscal year 2024, eliminating the remaining balance of Series 2013 bonds issued for Douglas Road improvements.
This decision will reallocate $1 million in expenditures for transition year 2024 and save $137,961 in interest. The move highlights the Village’s commitment to prudent fiscal management and responsible use of taxpayer dollars.
