Friends, I recently shared in an op-ed published in The Richmond Times Dispatch that one of my earliest memories is the accidental shooting death of a childhood playmate. The young cousin who shot her was only 6 years old, and has lived with this tragedy his entire life. Hardly any family in America remains untouched by gun violence. The 2019 Virginia elections were about our shared values, and one of those values was action on gun violence. My campaign focused on gun safety issues, and I knew it was my job to represent Virginians and fight for what voters cared about — universal background checks, stronger restrictions on firearm ownership, and increased protection for our children. Alongside the hard work of advocacy groups, community organizations, and families who have suffered too many tragedies, the 2020 General Assembly passed meaningful legislation this year. We were able to do so because you supported campaigns like mine. Governor Northam has now signed this legislation into law. Can you donate and help us continue this work? Chip in $5 or $10 today and help us build a safer, better Virginia!
In the most recent session, Governor Northam signed:
Passing these bills marks a historic step for Virginia, and a win for our communities. But our fight is not over. In the last election, grassroots supporters made it possible for us to flip this district — and I hope we can continue to count on you.
We owe it to our children, neighbors, and future generations to keep fighting for necessary reforms that will protect our communities. Tragedies like the one I experienced are preventable with common sense gun legislation. With your help I’ll keep fighting for change every step of the way: Chip in today to support our fight for gun reform! Thank you, now and always, for your support. -- Ghazala
