The Potent Political Effect of Border Chaos and Immigrant Crime: Separating Rhetoric from Reality - Chaos and disorder are the ignored causes of Donald Trump’s popularity among American voters—and those voters have good reasons to be upset by them. Immigration and crime are the most obvious examples of chaos and disorder during President Biden’s administration. Republicans and others are linking immigration and crime in ways that don’t match the facts. Still, it is an effective political strategy that could lead to changes in public policy that emphasize enforcement of our immigration licensing regime in a misguided attempt to reduce real crime indirectly. That strategy will not work and relies on a theory of collective guilt at odds with Western values.

Cornyn, GOP Colleagues Urge Chair Durbin to Hold Hearing on President Trump Assassination Attempt - U.S. Senator John Cornyn sent a letter with his fellow Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans requesting Chair Dick Durbin hold a hearing on the circumstances that led to the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump and the murder and injury of other attendees in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13. They wrote: "There is much unknown about this attempted assassination, but its occurrence raises alarming questions and concerns... The Senate Committee on the Judiciary has an obligation to exercise its jurisdiction and oversight authority over the United States Secret Service, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to shed light on this grave matter. The Committee must fulfill its responsibility to investigate this thoroughly and publicly to understand how this happened and how it can be prevented in the future."

Congressman Moran Votes to Block Biden’s Harmful Title IX Rule, Protect Women and Girls - In April, the Biden Administration announced its final Title IX rule that removed female-only spaces such as locker rooms, bathrooms, and other sex-separated areas while also allowing biological males to compete within women’s sports and organizations. Congressman Nathaniel Moran, a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, spoke on the House floor in support of H.J. Res. 165, introduced by Congresswoman Mary Miller, which seeks to block the Biden Administration’s Title IX rule that redefines “sex” to include sexual orientation and gender identity. This Congressional Review Act resolution passed the U.S. House of Representatives with a vote of 210 to 205.
