Your gift to the 2024 Matching Gift Challenge will help us launch a new campaign this summer to protect Bajos del Norte, which covers an area of 1.3 million hectares in the Gulf of Mexico and has been identified as a critical spawning aggregation site for species vital to the long-term health of the Gulf.

The Bajos del Norte forms an active biological corridor with the adjacent Alacranes Reef, whose ecological processes represent a continuous flow of larval biomass that is crucial for maintaining populations of fish, mollusks, and crustaceans, as well as grouper, octopus, and lobster.

We need YOU to help protect incredibly vital areas in this new campaign, which includes the Alacranes Reef National Park, one of the largest coral reefs in the Western Hemisphere. Your 2024 Matching Gift Challenge, with all gifts up to $150,000 doubled, will help our new ship the M/V Bob Barker, and other vessels to mobilize to protect this area and push back against the illegal fishing of red grouper, the poaching of Mexican four-eyed octopus, and more.

Once in place, our campaign will provide refuge for threatened species such as whale sharks and turtles, as well as hard and soft corals, sponges, and sea fans, and will facilitate the migration of hundreds of marine animals from and through this area.
