Let’s hear it for the 2024 VITA Leadership Institute! We're thrilled to share some amazing updates from the VITA Leadership Institute (VLI), which was launched in 2019 thanks to a generous grant from Wells Fargo. The inaugural VLI brought together ten diverse VITA programs from across the country, fostering peer-to-peer learning and discussions on everything from volunteer recruitment to innovative service delivery. Reflecting on the VLI's positive impact, JaMelle Hill of United Way of Central Georgia shared, “We have received feedback from several people, clients, and site coordinators, exclaiming this has been the best year yet! Everything ran smoother because of the information and expertise shared.” Alpha Alimou Balde of Hispanic Unity of Florida envisions the VLI becoming a “hub for mentors and thought leaders.” One of our favorite highlights was supporting the EITC Awareness Day events earlier this year in Florida, Texas, and Georgia. Annette Tucker of Wateree Community Actions, Inc. in Columbia, South Carolina, stated, “VITA Leadership has provided me with a plethora of ideas to increase VITA sites, serve more individuals, implement an EITC Outreach Event, and increase financial literacy for low-income families.” Upcoming EventsThe VITA Leadership Institute: A Success Story and Lessons Learned Join us on Monday, July 29th, from 3:00 – 4:00 PM EDT, for a webinar to explore the impactful journey of the VITA Leadership Institute Cohort (VLI), a program born from the generosity of Wells Fargo. Issues arise from how property values are assessed and the disconnect between taxes and families' financial capacities. Whether you're in your peak earning years, recently unemployed, or in a gentrifying area, your tax bill reflects home value rather than your ability to pay.
