John,
J.D. Vance spoke at the RNC last night, so I wanted to follow up with some updates that he failed to mention on stage—but that you should know:
- Last year, Vance joined an effort encouraging the Department of Justice to enforce the Comstock Act, a zombie law from the 1800s that could be used by an anti-choice administration to effectively ban abortion nationwide—without any help from Congress.
- Vance pressured the federal government to cancel a rule preventing police from accessing the medical records of reproductive healthcare patients who cross state lines. That’s right: he wants police to be able to track abortion patients.
- Vance has said he’ll support a “national minimum standard”—anti-abortion activists’ new code for a national abortion ban.
Now, Vance is scrubbing his website, following the MAGA politician playbook and trying to hide his history on this issue from voters.
But his track record makes the stakes of this race clear, and our work to build political power at the state and local level more important than ever.
Turning voters out for their local and state pro-choice champions will benefit the entire Democratic ticket, ensuring that Vance doesn’t get the chance to enact these cruel, dangerous policies nationally.
If you’re able, can you chip in $10 to support our candidates down-ballot?
With gratitude,
Maris Nyhart

John,
Donald Trump has just announced J.D. Vance as the Republican Vice Presidential nominee—so let’s take a second to talk about who he is and what he stands for.
J.D. Vance has consistently attacked our reproductive freedoms, proudly outlining his plan to ‘End Abortion’ on his campaign website. When asked if abortion laws should have exceptions for rape or incest, he responded that “two wrongs don’t make a right.”
And when Ohioans turned out in overwhelming numbers to enshrine abortion rights into state law, exercising their civil liberties, Vance called it “a gut punch.”
He has indicated support for a national abortion ban, and in his short tenure as Senator, he has voted against protecting access to IVF, and declined to protect access to birth control.
This moment calls for strong, empathetic leaders who will work to uphold safe and secure elections—instead, Trump has nominated a 2020 election denier who has championed some of Project 2025’s most extreme ideas.
Vance represents an extremist, authoritarian view of America’s future, one that we know doesn’t resonate with a majority of voters.
Our candidates provide a different pathway: one that builds safe, thriving communities in which we all have the freedom to make decisions about our bodies, families, and futures.
That’s why we’re in this work: because the world our candidates are creating is within reach. Thank you for building it with us.
In solidarity,
Team Vote Pro-Choice
