iGaming, sports betting operators report $214.1M in June revenue

DETROIT, July 18, 2024 ? Michigan commercial and tribal operators reported a combined $214.1 million total internet gaming (iGaming) gross receipts and gross sports betting receipts in June. Gross receipts decreased 10.6% compared to last month.

Monthly Gross Receipts
June iGaming gross receipts totaled $183.2 million and gross sports betting receipts totaled $30.9 million. In May, gross sports betting receipts were $198.6 million and gross sports betting receipts were $40.9 million.

Monthly Adjusted Gross Receipts
Combined total iGaming and internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for June were $136.35 million, including $164.56 million from iGaming and negative ($28.21 million) from internet sports betting ? representing an iGaming decrease of 7.9% and a sports betting decrease of $56.32 million when compared to last month. This $56.32 million decrease was due in part to a $48.2 million free play deduction taken by one of the operators, MGM Grand Detroit / BetMGM, which had not previously been taken.

Compared to a year ago, in June 2023, iGaming AGR was up by 20.2% and sports betting was down by $37.4 million.

Monthly Handle
Total June internet sports betting handle at $276.8 million was down by 19.5% from the $343.7 million handle recorded in May 2024.

Monthly State Taxes/Payments
The operators reported submitting $35.5 million in taxes and payments to the State of Michigan during June, of which:

  • iGaming taxes and fees = $34.4 million
  • Internet sports betting taxes and fees = $1.1 million

Monthly City of Detroit Taxes/Payments
The three Detroit casinos reported paying the City of Detroit $8.79 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees during June, of which:

  • iGaming taxes and fees = $8.4 million
  • Internet sports betting taxes and fees = $391,960

Monthly Tribal Operators? Payments
Tribal operators reported making $4.3 million in payments to governing bodies in June.

As of June 2024, a total of 15 commercial and tribal operators have been authorized to launch iGaming and/or internet sports betting. Currently, 12 commercial and tribal operators offer internet sports betting, and 15 operators offer iGaming.
