A message from the Leader of the Council, Cllr Neghat Khan
Cllr Neghat Khan
It’s no secret that Nottingham City Council is in a challenging position. As the new Leader of the council, I am ambitious for our city and committed to putting us back on track to deliver for our citizens and to balance our books. I’m pleased that this week the council’s Executive Board recommended our Council Improvement Plan, as approved by Commissioners, goes to Full Council in August for approval. Our Improvement Plan sets out a clear roadmap for our journey to become fit for purpose.
Our Improvement Plan says the council must change – and we must do this quickly. The future council must look, feel and operate differently to the Nottingham City Council of today:
* We must be clear on our role and purpose as a council
* We must be realistic about what we can deliver
* We must be more effective and efficient in how we operate
I also believe that we must be more consistent in getting the basics right so that our residents know what they can expect from their council.
I’m confident we can do this. We all have a role to play and I urge everybody to work with us on this – to support us to do better for Nottingham.

Houses
Have your say on the city’s Housing Strategy – Homes Fit for the Future
A draft Housing Strategy – Homes Fit for the Future – has been developed to improve the quality, supply and affordability of housing in the city.
The strategy, which runs to 2028 and has been put together by Nottingham City Council, will cover social housing, the private-rented sector and owner-occupied homes. Partnership working will be key to achieving the vision and responding to housing need in the city, and the strategy provides a framework for organisations to work together.
A public consultation which launched this week offers people an opportunity to provide feedback on the draft strategy. To take part in the consultation please fill out our online survey [ [link removed] ]. The responses we receive through the survey will help shape the final strategy document and our actions for the next four years.
