John - We are kicking off our August recess congressional recess campaign for child care. Members of Congress are home for a month to learn what their constituents need. Our volunteers are gearing up to meet with their members of Congress to make the case that they need to address our growing problem of child care deserts. What’s a child care desert? It’s an area in which the available child care slots don’t come close to meeting the need. 51% of Americans live in a child care desert and the impact on kids and families is real. When kids don’t have quality early learning experiences, like they can receive at child care, they can start behind their peers. Many never catch up. That is why in addition to meeting with lawmakers in person, we want to flood congressional offices with messages from constituents, like you, urging them to cosponsor the Child Care Workforce and Facilities Act (S. 605 | H.R. 1488). This bipartisan bill would provide grants to states to address child care deserts based on the unique needs of their state. Will you send a message to your members of Congress to urge them to support this bill? Kids like Cole not only learn early literacy and math skills in child care but they also gain social-emotional skills like sharing and taking turns. Children who have experiences like Cole’s will be ready to succeed when they go to kindergarten in the fall. As a dad to three terrific kids, I know moms and dads are their kid’s first and best teachers. But with 66% of young children living with working parents, affordable, accessible child care is a must for millions of kids and families. The Child Care Workforce and Facilities Act addresses the cost and availability of child care while also encouraging states to address some growing challenges like providing child care during non-traditional work hours and teacher pay. The creative ideas states develop could become a blueprint for other states facing similar challenges. But to create momentum for this bill, we need to build a groundswell of support! That’s where you come in, John. Will you please urge your members of Congress to support kids and families by adding their name to the Child Care Workforce and Facilities Act? Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
