Social Distancing dont stop now

**A message from City Council Deputy Leader Cllr Sally Longford:**

Stay home graphic

I really do thank Nottingham people for all that you have done to adhere to social distancing, its not easy and many people will be making considerable sacrifices but it is working. The Government has stated that the UK wide lockdown will only be lifted when these five tests are met:

* Making sure the NHS can cope
* A 'sustained and consistent' fall in the daily death rate
* Rate of infection decreasing to 'manageable levels'
* Ensuring supply of tests and PPE can meet future demand
* Being confident any adjustments would not risk a second peak.

If we stop now then we will be extending the time that these tests will be met by and we will risk increasing the spread of coronavirus in our city. Please continue to follow the Government guidelines:

* Stay at home
* Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
* If you go out, stay two metres (six feet) away from other people at all times
* Wash your hands as soon as you get home
* Do not meet others, even friends or family. You can spread the virus even if you dont have symptoms.

*Social Distancing even applies to our Patron Saints!*

St Georges

Tomorrow is St George's Day, and usually people across the city including council staff would be busy preparing for celebrations of Englands patron saint. Unfortunately, social distancing applies to St George too! Organisers of the traditional parade in the city centre have had to cancel the event, but we will be lighting up the Council House red tonight to celebrate and sharing the picture tomorrow.

The St Georges Day celebrations are popular in Nottingham so I know people will be disappointed, hopefully we will have something bigger and better to look forward to next year.

*Social Distancing Treat yourself to a Big Night In*

Big Night In logo

Tomorrow night Comic Relief and Children In Need are joining forces to bring The Big Night In to TVs across the nation. The programme will be paying tribute to those working to tackle the crisis and raising money for local charities and vulnerable people significantly impacted by it.

Id like to thank our local Wilko stores who have teamed up with the council to help local people celebrate the Big Night In. Wilko have donated 26,000 boxes of popcorn, which council staff have delivered to hospitals, food banks, families in need and key workers.

Find out more here Big Night In [ [link removed] ], showing on BCC1 at 7pm. Enjoy your evening.
