Malaria Must Die logos
Hi

For over ten years, I have been campaigning with you and the team to beat malaria.  I do this to make sure no mother endures what I did when I lost my son, Harry.

Every two minutes, somewhere around the world, another mother will lose a child under five from malaria. As long as malaria exists, threatening the poorest and most vulnerable, I will give my support to the fight to end it.

That’s why I’m making a special appeal this Sunday on BBC Radio 4 to raise vital funds to help make sure we end this unjust disease within a generation. Will you tune in?

Nearly half the world’s population is still at risk from malaria and, with the added pressures of coronavirus, this risk is only likely to increase.

Malaria took away my beautiful son, a talented rugby player. Aged 20, he went to Ghana to spend time volunteering. While he was there he gave away his anti-malaria drugs to the pupils he was teaching in the village. That was so like him, always so generous. But that kind-hearted gesture cost him his life.

A week after he returned from Ghana, he was in the hospital with malaria. After ten days of fighting for his life, he died. Losing a child rips out a part of you that you never fill in. You just learn to work around it and tape up the edges.

Together we can help protect other parents from losing their children. We can make sure malaria is not forgotten during the current global health emergency. Tune in for my appeal on Radio 4 this Sunday at 07.54 AM or listen online until 2 May.
