But it's not too late to take action:
With an abundance of renewable energy resources that can meet the continent's energy needs, Africa has an incredible opportunity to transition to an equitable renewable energy system, and lead the world down a long-term and sustainable energy path.
But here's the thing: It's not as simple as installing a solar panel — in some places, there is no energy grid, which means we will also have to provide battery systems for 24/7 energy access.
Africa also requires significant funding from financial institutions and the developed world to fund a just transition to renewable energy, and world leaders and financial institutions are too busy greenlighting destructive fossil fuel projects and propping up Big Oil.
That's where you — and this amazing climate movement you're a part of — come in, John.
