One of my most special places in New York is the southern shorefront of Brooklyn.

I ride my bike along the trails there, and even amidst the millions of people in New York City, you can really get some peace and quiet along those wetlands. When my grandson was born, it really made me wonder -- will that be there for him when he's old enough to enjoy it?

I've missed that shorefront while staying home these past few weeks, and I know all of us have a special place we're missing so much right now, too -- because we all have somewhere special to us that is under threat to climate change. Right now, it's up to us to do something about it.

The policy I released last fall is bold -- but that's what this fight calls for.

We need to take 63 million carbon-emitting cars off the road, and subsidize new electric, plug-in hybrid, or hydrogen fuel cell cars for Americans who trade in their gas-powered cars. This is a plan that works with American manufacturing giants like General Motors to fight climate change and create clean jobs for Americans -- and it's exactly the kind of ingenuity this fight needs.

Climate policy is at the front of any Senate Democratic agenda in 2020 -- because my grandson, and all our young people, deserve to inherit a planet they can love like we do. I want those Brooklyn wetlands there for my grandson, and I'll do everything in my power to save them and every special place like it.
