John,
It’s the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day and we are not celebrating and organizing the way I thought we would be two months ago. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, we are practicing social distancing, missing friends and family, and living with the stress and anxiety of these uncertain times. Yet we remain vigilant, fighting as environmental protections are rolled back in the name of the pandemic, and we are staying nimble and adapting how we do our work.
Public health and our environment are inextricably linked, so we’re acting in solidarity with those most impacted by the crisis like service workers, health care professionals, those without access to healthcare, childcare, adequate housing or food. Our organizers and interns are being creative, resourceful and resilient, hosting virtual community gatherings and taking our actions online.
We invite you to join us for the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day to help set the course for the next 50 years. Help us set a course for a world that has made it through this pandemic — and not only a healthy world, but one where we organize and come together to take action and invest in resilience, workers, and a stable, durable economy. A world where we elect environmental champions who listen to science and experts, then take action to tackle climate change and threats to our public health.
Join us on the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day with these 5 actions:
