John — let’s talk about some myths surrounding the climate crisis. If you’ve been paying attention to the Republican National Convention this week, you’ve probably heard things like:

“Scientists disagree on the cause of climate change.” False.

“A couple of degrees of warming is not that big of a deal.” Wrong.

“The ocean will rise, maybe, and it may go down, also…gives you a little bit more waterfront property if you’re lucky enough to own.” Outrageous.

Here’s the reality: The fossil fuel industry wants you to believe these myths. For decades, they’ve funded efforts to deceive the public about the dangers of burning fossil fuels.

Instead of following the science, they orchestrated a massive campaign of denial and deception to protect their profits. They used tactics straight out of the tobacco industry’s playbook, including cherry-picking data, promoting fake experts, and spreading conspiracy theories, all to undermine the scientific consensus and sow doubt.

We see right through their disinformation tactics, and we need your support to push back and protect our planet. That’s why we set a goal to reach 250 individual donations before the GOP Convention ends tomorrow night, so we can double down on our efforts to combat climate disinformation and elect candidates who aren’t beholden to Big Oil.
