Dear John,
J.D. Vance, Donald Trump’s pick for vice president, is a dangerous radical — a 39-year-old MAGA true believer poised to carry Trump’s authoritarian legacy into the future.
Vance insists the 2020 election was stolen and has said that he would have done what Mike Pence refused to do and blocked certification of the election, had he been vice president at the time.
He supports banning abortion, including in cases of rape, saying “the child should be allowed to live, even though the circumstances of that child’s birth are somehow inconvenient or a problem to the society.”
He’s argued that women should stay in violent marriages, mocking domestic violence survivors as people who like to “shift spouses like they change their underwear.”
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Vance’s radical vision for America. But because he has such a thin record in public office — he never ran for office or held any job in government until 2022 — most Americans know almost nothing about him.
We’ve launched a major public education campaign to change that immediately. Will you donate $5 a month to Inequality Media Civic Action to help alert the public and warn voters about the dangerous and radical views of J.D. Vance?
Yes, Robert! I’ll start a monthly donation.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t chip in monthly.
After the shooting at the Donald Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last weekend, most political leaders urged calm and tried to turn down the temperature.
Not J.D. Vance. Immediately after the shooting, he took to social media and blamed President Biden for the attempt on Trump’s life.
“The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs,” he said. “That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.”
In 2020, Vance alleged that the 2020 election was stolen and that Biden’s immigration policy meant “more Democrat voters pouring into this country.”
In 2022, he suggested that Democrats were attempting to “transform the electorate” amid an immigrant “invasion.” Echoing the so-called “great replacement theory,” Vance told voters, “You’re talking about a shift in the democratic makeup of this country that would mean we never win, meaning Republicans would never win a national election in this country ever again.”
On the basis of these views alone, Vance is not qualified to hold any office in the United States government. But Republicans are already spending massive amounts of money on ads to sell Vance to the American people, and the mainstream media is doing a terrible job so far of vetting Vance’s record.
