(LANSING, MICH) July is National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month, and the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is encouraging vehicle owners to take steps to protect their vehicles from theft. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than one million vehicles were stolen in the United States last year?a 25% increase in vehicle theft totals over previous years. ?Having your vehicle stolen is a major disruption to everyday life and it is important that Michiganders take preventive actions to protect themselves from this threat,? said DIFS Director Anita Fox. ?Some auto insurers even give discounts to customers who have installed anti-theft features in their vehicle.
