Tonight, Donald Trump’s official running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, will take center stage at the RNC to lay out his vision, which includes attacking our democracy and fundamental freedoms.

So, who is this man? Republicans want you to think he’s a principled populist, but the fact is that Vance is just another power hungry election denier who will change his views whichever way the political winds blow. 

From “Never Trumper” to MAGA minion, Vance went from calling Trump “unfit” for office to saying he would not have certified the 2020 election if he had been in Mike Pence’s position. Vance even opposes abortion exceptions for cases of rape and incest, because, in his words “two wrongs don’t make a right.” Sounds like a slogan for the Trump-Vance ticket.

What else should you know about JD Vance? Here are a few points to start:

• He started his political career as a vocal critic of Trump, saying Trump was “unfit for our nation’s highest office” and “leading the white working class to a very dark place,”  then flipped on his previous statements to secure a Trump endorsement for his Ohio Senate run.
• He supports Project 2025, calling the extremist policies “good ideas” and encourages Trump to replace civil servants with MAGA cronies who won’t say no to him. 
• In addition to supporting total abortion bans with no exceptions for rape and incest, he even voted against protecting IVF.
• He wants police in states with abortion bans to be able to access women’s private medical records in order to hunt down and prosecute those seeking legal abortions in other states.
• He said he wouldn’t have certified the 2020 election results had he been vice president and refuses to agree to accept the results of this election.

Of course this is who MAGA Republicans want for vice president. For the rest of us, Vance’s nomination is just another reason why we cannot let Trump win the presidency this fall.
