My home state of Wisconsin has been in the news A LOT this week. Let’s quickly remind ourselves just how central Wisconsin has been in our work in recent years:

FIRST: Extreme lawmakers in Wisconsin egregiously gerrymandered the legislative maps to drown out the will of the people – which gave then-Governor Scott Walker a free ticket to wreak havoc on our state.

THEN: We fought back at the grassroots level. It took years for us to build our power, make the case for fair maps, and ultimately win a set of maps that is far more representative. The new legislative maps Wisconsin will use in November are in no small part the culmination of years and years of organizing.

NOW: Wisconsinites have the best opportunity in over a decade to finally elect state legislators that reflect their values.

But our progress is never guaranteed. And with Wisconsin set to be the epicenter of the election cycle again this year, we need to continue to expand our organizing capacity in the Badger State and across the country. Can I count on you to rush a donation to All On The Line today? → [link removed]

Let’s face the facts: We know opponents of fair maps will always try to undo the progress we make. Prime examples can be everything from extreme legal claims — including those made by defendants in the latest U.S. Supreme Court redistricting case, that green-lit a map previously found to be a racial gerrymander in South Carolina. Or they can be political, like the brazen gerrymandering lawmakers in North Carolina enacted. It happens in nearly every jurisdiction where we’ve made advances, and we expect similar attempts in Wisconsin.

They’re desperate to cling on to power, and this is the only way they know how. But we can organize to stop these plots.

This week, we have seen some of the very map manipulators that tried to drown out Wisconsin voices galavant and scheme in a city they’ve tried to marginalize. But that must only strengthen our resolve.
