350.org

Hi John,

I'm writing this email from Uganda, where I just finished a meeting with local climate activists who are eager to start work on the REPower Afrika campaign.

We were discussing our plans for helping communities across Africa transition away from fossil fuels and onto clean solar power by training everyday people — many of whom are women — in solar installation and maintenance.

Our goal for REPower Afrika is to build a skilled workforce within our communities capable of supporting and expanding the renewable energy sector.

This matters because as more people find employment in solar energy, the economic reliance on fossil fuel industries decreases, accelerating the transition to renewables.

And by increasing access to reliable and sustainable energy, we will also enhance community resilience against climate disasters, allowing communities to thrive and adapt to changing environmental conditions without reverting to fossil fuel dependence.

But this is not the kind of campaign we can win on our own. We are counting on people like you, John, to support however you can.

Which is why I am asking:

Can you please make a $3.50 donation today so we can launch the REPower Afrika campaign on July 18? Every contribution made today will be TRIPLED by a generous donor.

Here's exactly what your support will mean for the work of 350.org and activists like me:

Community Engagement and Education: I work closely with local communities to raise awareness about the benefits of solar energy. This involves organizing workshops, training sessions, and outreach programs to educate people about the technology and its advantages.

Children studying with lights

Training and Capacity Building: One of my primary focuses is on training individuals, particularly women, in the installation and maintenance of solar systems. This not only provides them with valuable skills but also promotes gender equality and economic empowerment.

Building solar panels

Partnership Development: I collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners, to foster partnerships that support the implementation and scaling of solar projects. These collaborations help to secure funding, resources, and technical expertise.

Putting solar panels on the roof

Project Implementation: I oversee the planning and execution of solar projects, ensuring they are effectively implemented and meet the needs of the communities. This involves site assessments, installation supervision, and post-installation support.

Building solar panels

Advocacy and Policy Influence: I advocate for policies that support renewable energy development and work to influence governmental and institutional policies to create a favorable environment for solar energy adoption. Through these efforts, my goal is to contribute to a sustainable energy future for Africa, where communities have access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy, improving their quality of life and resilience to climate change.

Working directly with communities around the world to build and sustain our own renewable energy is the only way we are going to turn things around for our planet before it's too late. But I cannot do it by myself, so I am asking:

Can you contribute $3.50 — or whatever you can afford — so we can help communities transition away from fossil fuels and onto renewable energy? Every contribution made today will be TRIPLE MATCHED by a generous donor.

Thank you for chipping in what you can today. Your support means real impact and real resources for activists like me.

Onwards,

Edwin on behalf of the REPower Afrika activists
