Today is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and it’s safe to say no one expected we’d be celebrating it indoors during a planet-wide pandemic. But these past few weeks, you have shown us the power of community.
Over 4,000 of you have joined Team Sierra and started a fundraiser or made a donation.
You’ve helped us raise nearly $92k to protect our planet.
So many of you have volunteered your time to host virtual activities! You’re bringing the outdoors indoors while we need to stay home.
Your efforts help us come together to demand a cleaner, healthier environment and a just, clean energy future. We’re so close to raising $100k in honor of the 50th Anniversary. Will you help us reach our goal by creating a fundraiser or making a donation?
Here’s some of this week’s virtual activities in honor of Earth Day:

Here's what to expect for Earth Day Live:
There will be heartfelt stories from those on the frontlines of both the COVID and climate crises. For example, on Wednesday April 22, the livestream will amplify the voices of youth and indigenous climate activists on the frontlines of the climate justice movement. There will be thought-provoking discussions about where we go from here in the fight for justice for ALL people. Like on Thursday, April 23, leaders of the Gwich'in Nation will share their fight to protect their Arctic homelands from oil drilling and fossil fuel profiteering. There will be amazing performances from musicians, artists and celebrities. And throughout there will be bold calls to action, where you can join with thousands of others to demand our leaders to do more to protect our health, workers, communities,
and planet. Read more here.
Genevieve Padalecki
is no stranger to adventure. Growing up in Northern California, Gen and her family used nature as their playground: hiking Presidio Park on weekends, swimming in the chilly waters of Lake Tahoe, even riding on horseback up Mt. Diablo (which she later recreated on her TV show Wildfire!), Gen quickly found her first love…the outdoors. Much of Gen’s growth occurred in the outdoors: hiking up Mt. Baldy, solo camping in Moab at age 16, and learning survival skills by having to build, and sleep, in snow caves. After graduating from NYU with degrees in Theater and English, Gen has worn many hats;
actress (Wildfire, Supernatural), blogger (Now & Gen), activist (HRC, Planned Parenthood and Sierra Club supporter), wife (to husband Jared Padalecki whom she met on Supernatural), and most importantly, mother (to Tom, 8, Shep, 6, and Odette, 3). Gen loves sharing her experiences and escapades on her lifestyle blog, Now & Gen.
Emily Stochl is a writer based in Cedar Rapids, IA. She hosts and produces the weekly interview podcast, Pre-Loved Podcast, a show with rad vintage style and guests you’ll want to go thrifting with! In her spare time he enjoys reading, tending to her plants, and yoga.
As we all deal with a global pandemic with COVID-19, we wanted to let you know how the Sierra Club is adapting and responding
so we can keep doing the important work of helping our communities, protecting our natural and human environment and fighting for a just, clean energy future.
