You can help shut down 15 more coal plants in 2024.
Friend,
Coal poisons every part of our environment – the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil we grow our food in. It's a huge source of carbon pollution, one of the main contributors to the climate change crisis that is fueling this summer's scorching heat waves and Hurricane Beryl – the earliest Category 5 hurricane ever on record in the Atlantic.
There are still 146 coal plants remaining across the US – each of them still spewing toxic pollution into our atmosphere. The Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign has an ambitious goal to shut down every last dirty coal plant in the country – and to get there, we need to retire 15 more coal plants before the end of this year.
2024 has already been a year of incredible progress: with the help of Sierra Club members and supporters like you, the Beyond Coal campaign has already helped secure retirements for 7 coal plants this year – including the last two active plants in the entire New England region.
But reaching our goal to close 15 more coal plants this year won't be easy. Compared to the 384 facilities we've already helped retire since 2010, many of the remaining plants are newer and bigger, located in areas where state governments are pro-fossil fuel and hostile to clean energy efforts.
We have a plan to fight them – and it depends on you, Friend. When you make a gift to support our work fighting fossil fuels, you will help:
Mobilize Sierra Club members and activists on the ground to put pressure on local utility companies and shut down coal plants harming their communities. Pitch in now to help shut down more coal plants >>

Spread the truth about the deadly impacts of fossil fuel pollution through media outreach and efforts like the Dirty Truth report. Make your gift now >>
We're in the midst of a historic transition, as millions of people across the country come together to work towards a future where all communities use clean, sustainable energy. Every step brings us closer to that greener, healthier future – and right now, you can take part by making a gift to the Sierra Club.
