We're coming to Washington, DC this September for our annual global conference, #NoWar2024, in time to celebrate the International Day of Peace. It is our first fully 'hybrid' conference spanning multiple continents — all sessions will be livestreamed on Zoom with in-person events in Washington, DC as well as Sydney, Australia; Wanfried, Germany; and Bogotá, Colombia.

The Washington, DC section of the conference will be Sunday, September 22 at 1:00pm-5:00pm at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1313 New York Avenue NW. Featured speakers include: World BEYOND War’s Co-Founder and Executive Director David Swanson; Dr. Cynthia Enloe, renowned author of Bananas, Beaches and Bases; Khury Petersen-Smith, the Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow at Institute for Policy Studies, whose research focuses on U.S. empire, borders, and migration; Jared Hayes, Environmental Working Group (EWG)’s Senior Policy Analyst, who has extensive experience on PFAS contamination at U.S. military bases; WBW Board President Kathy Kelly; and spoken word performer Marjan Naderi.

We're seeking volunteers to help out with the event. All volunteers get a free ticket, which provides access to all sessions throughout the 3-day conference. Can you help out?

Volunteer tasks include:

Event Set-up: arranging chairs and tables, putting up signage
Refreshments Table: brewing coffee and heating hot water for tea, laying out refreshments on platters (fruit, pastries, etc)
Registration Desk: Checking people in, registering walk-ins, handing out event programs
Clean-up: taking down signage, packing away supplies
Event Photography: Looking for experienced photographers who are willing to volunteer their services for the event

Throughout 3 days of sessions at the #NoWar2024 Conference, we'll hear from speakers from around the globe about the social, environmental, economic, and political impacts of U.S. military bases in their regions. We'll also hear incredible stories of nonviolent resistance, with the aim of sharing effective strategies and tactics that communities can use to oppose militarism in their regions.
