What a week it's been, and it's only Tuesday. After an assassination attempt on Saturday, former president Donald Trump showed up to the Republican National Convention yesterday with a bandaged ear and a long-awaited vice president announcement: Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will be joining Trump on the ticket this November.
While Vance previously sat in the never-Trumper camp – going as far as to compare Trump to Hitler – his early skepticism can't be counted on to curb the former president's rhetoric. In fact, quite the opposite. Vance, in response to the assassination attempt, made an incredibly irresponsible statement that blamed the Biden campaign for the precipitation of political violence – further fanning the flames of conspiracy and divisiveness.
A convert to the MAGA agenda may make a powerful spokesman for the ultra-conservative <a href='[link removed]'>Project 2025 platform</a> – or his extremist views, particularly surrounding women and families, may alienate swing voters. Swing voters who, even after the tragic events of Saturday, have not coalesced around Trump but continue to oppose his policies. Republicans' <a href='[link removed]'>anti-abortion</a> and <a href='[link removed]'>anti-woman</a> agenda poses deadly risks to the health and well-being of half the population.

The first of the six-part series, <a href='[link removed]'>Building a Future for Working Families</a>, details the challenges working families face, particularly in rural America, when it comes to reproductive and maternal health, paid family leave, and child care access.
The GOP has a record of denying families access to critical support programs, defunding nutrition assistance, failing to provide child care, removing women's ability to plan their families, and attacking health care systems. On the other hand, Democrats have pushed policies that would codify women's reproductive rights, expand access to maternity care, enhance the paid family leave tax credit, and improve child care.
