This email was supposed to be about our efforts this month to free Congress from the threat of Mike Simpson, but I can’t pretend the last four days didn’t happen.

I don’t have to tell you that I don’t support political violence. Of course I don’t, even when the target is Donald Trump, a man whose rise to power directly correlates with a rise in domestic terror and mass shootings.

We all know how crucial it is that Trump doesn’t retake the White House this year, but there’s a time and place to stop that from happening. It’s in November, and it’s at the ballot box.

The other major event we need to address is the selection of J.D. Vance as Trump’s running mate.

This is a man who wholeheartedly compared the former president to Adolf Hitler in a text to a friend in 2016, tweeted that Trump is “an idiot,” and prided himself on pushing back against him.

When Trump chose Mike Pence, he did it for the evangelical vote. He made a mistake by choosing someone who would put his country over his president.

 

With Vance, he’s chosen someone who has already proven he will abandon his values and his country for his best shot at power – even if that means riding Trump’s coattails or calling Project 2025’s policies “some good ideas.” 

 

Trump is using the same strategy for his cabinet and his White House staff, handpicking the most extreme loyalists to carry out his agenda without any hesitation. Besides, a lot of the folks in his first administration won’t touch him with a 10-foot pole.

 

John, we only have one chance to stop Project 2025 and save our democracy if Trump is re-elected. It’s flipping the House and strengthening our Senate majority.

While I’m putting in the work to earn votes and show that I genuinely care about our country and my community, Simpson is fundraising on gimmicks like “DONATE TODAY FOR A 700% MATCH!” Those aren’t real, John, and neither is Mike Simpson’s leadership. 

 

MAGA’s ideology and MAGA politicians’ senseless rhetoric has weakened our government and cheapened our politics. Mike Simpson and J.D. Vance sacrificing their morals and values for Trump are a perfect example.

 

We need leaders who care LESS ABOUT A WINNING RHETORIC and MORE ABOUT ACTUAL RESULTS that benefit the majority of Americans.

 

What’s happening in Idaho is a warning for what’s to come if Republicans keep the House in November, and I am the only person in this race bringing attention to the horrifying events unfolding in our state – from the legislative assault on our public schools and libraries to the healthcare ban that affects trans Americans of all ages. 

 

Putting in the work to identify real problems and support real solutions costs more money than scamming voters for a quick donation, but that’s how you know your support goes towards a real effort to fight for our democracy and our future.
