Yesterday, former President Donald Trump announced his selection of Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate for the 2024 election. Senator Vance has shown in the Senate that he will put gun industry profits over the safety of the American people.
Trump and Vance have a well-documented history of opposing evidence based, legislation designed to promote gun safety and reduce gun violence. Under Trump’s presidency, efforts to implement universal background checks, ban assault weapons, and restrict high-capacity magazines were consistently undermined. His administration prioritized the interests of the gun lobby over public safety, rolling back numerous regulations meant to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals.
Senator J.D. Vance has continued this dangerous agenda, standing against measures that would close deadly loopholes in our background check system and has openly opposed vital gun safety legislation that saves lives, like the bump stock ban after the tragic Las Vegas shooting. His rhetoric and voting record demonstrate a clear disregard for the urgent need to address the epidemic of gun violence in our country,
This underscores the critical importance of electing leaders who prioritize the safety and well-being of all Americans over the interests of the gun lobby. We need gun violence prevention champions in office who are dedicated to enacting common-sense gun safety measures and who refuse to accept gun violence as the status quo.
