Celebrating multiple milestones for Eastrail, connecting trail to rail in Bellevue

Eastrail aerial view

We celebrated multiple milestones for Eastrail, an emerging 42-mile regional trail connecting South and East King County to Snohomish County with a spur to Redmond.

We opened a new King County Parks trail bridge [ [link removed] ] that connects Eastrail to Sound Transit’s Wilburton Station. We also successfully competed for a $25 million federal grant that will help us complete the southern segment of Eastrail by retrofitting a steel bridge [ [link removed] ] to cross all 16 lanes of Interstate 90. That’s in addition to transforming the 1,000-foot-long Wilburton Trestle [ [link removed] ], which will offer spectacular views of the Bellevue skyline.

Follow along as we continue to build a world-class mobility network that connects trail and rail, offering healthy, scenic connections to many of the best places and opportunities our vibrant region has to offer!

Help us prevent fatal drownings this summer at King County rivers and lakes
water safety graphic

After five consecutive years of preventable drowning deaths remaining at historically high levels, King County officials are urging the public to exercise caution at rivers, lakes, and Puget Sound. Recent data from Public Health – Seattle & King County identified 30 preventable drowning deaths in 2023, a trend that has persisted since 2019. The combination of warmer air temperatures, dangerously cold water, a nationwide lifeguard shortage, and inequitable access to swimming lessons has contributed to this alarming situation.

King County officials recommend several safety measures to prevent drownings: wear a life jacket, avoid alcohol and drugs, designate an adult to monitor children, swim where lifeguards are present, and always tell someone where you plan to enter and exit a river before you leave home.
