Indivisibles,
Yesterday, Trump finally announced his running mate: MAGA Senator JD
Vance.
A little about Vance for those unfamiliar:
He’s an anti-abortion extremist. The policy section on Vance’s senate
campaign website (which someone forgot to take down prior to the
announcement, whoops) contains a blunt headline on reproductive rights:
“End abortion.” He’s made it clear he doesn’t support exceptions for rape
or incest.
He’s a big time election denier. Like Trump, Vance has voiced all sorts of
unfounded doubts about the 2020 election, and -- more importantly -- said
if he’d been VP in 2020, he’d have helped Trump overturn the election. He
also raised money for January 6th insurrectionists.
He’s a huge fan of Project 2025. Vance has praised the 900-page blueprint
for dictatorship and independently pushed some of its most sinister
aspects. After the announcement yesterday, the head of Project 2025 (a
good friend of Vance’s) said they were rooting for him to be the pick.
At first glance, Vance is an odd choice for a running mate. He doesn’t
help balance the ticket, because he’s just as extreme as Trump. He doesn’t
hail from a crucial swing state or help Trump with any imaginable
demographic.
It’s important to understand that Trump didn’t pick Vance to help him win
the election. Trump picked Vance because he wanted a sycophant willing and
able to help him pass his extreme agenda if he’s reelected. Trump sees
Vance as his best bet to make the dystopian vision of Project 2025 a
reality.

We know what a Trump-Vance administration would mean for the future of our
country. But four months out from the election, most voters have never
heard of JD Vance. This is especially true of critical double-hater voters
-- those who dislike both of the options for president, but are
winnable/persuadable by either campaign.
In many ways, we’ve been handed a real opportunity. Trump had a lot of VP
options that could have helped him electorally. He didn’t pick any of
them. He picked a candidate who could actually be a liability -- if we can
succeed in showing voters exactly how extreme this ticket is.
The Biden/Harris campaign is doing a good job in communicating this
already. But they can’t do it alone. The only way to get through to double
haters is through trusted messengers like friends and neighbors -- which
is exactly what we’re doing with our Neighbor2Neighbor tool. All over the
country, Indivisibles are knocking on doors and having real, personal
conversations about the stakes of this election and the importance of
defeating MAGA this November.
We know that exposing the extremism of MAGA candidates works. We saw it in
2022 -- the year that was supposed to be a red wave: Vance underperformed
by over 10 percentage points.
Our opponents are extreme and dangerous -- but they’re also flawed and
weak. We absolutely can beat them at the ballot box, but we need your help
to do it. [ [link removed] ]Pitch in to support Indivisibles who are mobilizing across
the country to defend our democracy this November.
