While the RNC is making its case to Americans, we'll make our own, by reaching out to voters one at a time to talk about our vision for the country.
Dear MoveOn member,
STUNNING NEWS: A Trump-appointed judge just yesterday threw out the case about Trump's illegal use of classified documents. This unprecedented abuse of power was rooted in the judge's accepting of Trump's lawyers' arguments against the appointment of the special counsel—an argument that the most corrupted Supreme Court justice, Clarence Thomas, recently espoused in his own ruling.1
While we are horrified by the political violence of this past weekend, Republicans are taking the stage in Milwaukee to make their case to the American people. We must do the same. We fully and loudly reject political violence—in this terrifying incident and in too many recent cases. And now we redouble our efforts to do what our democracy asks of us: make our case to voters, one at a time.
This has been a hard time for our country. Many felt shocked and terrified by the shooting Saturday evening. Others have experienced the rise in political violence in many forms over recent years. Either way, we know this isn't how we win elections, and this is not a characteristic that makes our civil society thrive or our democracy strong.
The Republicans aren't going to stop making their case, though, as they take the stage and the airwaves in Milwaukee this week—nor should they. They have one vision for the country that it's their prerogative to share.
We have a different vision:
- One where folks can seek the medical care they need, including abortion care, and where we make health care more affordable and universal.
- One where we continue President Biden's historic investment in combating the climate crisis because we want future generations to be able to thrive.
- One in which voting rights are strengthened and the rule of law applies to the rich, powerful, and corporations, not just the rest of us.
- One in which workers are respected, labor can organize, and you can afford to raise a family and reach the American Dream without having to work multiple jobs or drown in debt.
There are so many more issues that President Biden and Democratic candidates are championing that draw clear distinctions between them and their Republican opponents—and it's those agendas, not violence, that will win over voters.
Republicans will take to the TVs. We'll take to the phones—to have conversations, one at a time, about what's at stake.
Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? The MAGA movement's book bans have forced teachers and librarians across the country to remove books from their shelves and censor what young people can learn. MoveOn is fighting back, including by filling a "Banned Bookmobile" with books that the far right has banned and driving it to key cities and towns to raise the visibility of book bans, hand out banned books for free, and bring people together to stop censorship. To keep up the fight against book bans and the MAGA politicians who support them, we need your help.
Will you start a monthly gift to power and sustain MoveOn's critical work?
Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month.
No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
