Supporting Our Construction Workers

Hi John,

San Francisco is facing a housing crisis. And we need our workers to solve it.

That is why I am honored to announce the endorsement of the Operating Engineers Local 3 union in support of my candidacy for Supervisor, as we seek to build more housing in District 5 and across San Francisco.

Operating Engineers represent over 40,000 construction workers across Western states, including heavy-equipment operators, surveyors and construction materials inspectors, and CalTrans workers.

They are a critical union we need to build our housing and shape our infrastructure in San Francisco, and whom we must ensure can affordably live in our city as well.

That's why I partnered with the Operating Engineers earlier this year to announce the WAGE Act, seeking to ensure our construction workers earn a living wage and don't have their wages stolen. I'm excited to collaborate with them in the years ahead to get it done!

Climate Leaders Are On Team Bilal

Tackling our housing crisis is essential to solving our climate crisis.

When we invest in sustainable and mixed-use development, we make it easier for laborers, teachers and first responders to live close to work, and reduce our dependency on cars.

When we build green infrastructure, we create new jobs and opportunities that provide security to our neighbors and working families.

When we electrify our housing, we reduce the emissions otherwise polluting our air and contributing to the climate crisis.

I am committed to making this vision a reality for District 5 and all of San Francisco, and to that effect am honored to announce the endorsements of 3 climate leaders: Saikat Chakrabarti, coauthor of the Green New Deal, Nick Josefowitz, former BART Director, and CA State Senator Josh Becker.
"Bilal has the courage San Francisco needs to tackle it's biggest challenges...

Bilal and I partnered on the Upgrade California campaign last year... I know Bilal will continue to support innovative solutions to address San Francisco and our region's biggest problems from climate change to housing for all."

— Josh Becker, CA State Senator
I had the honor of collaborating with all three of these climate leaders last year on my nonprofit Electric Action, a fiscally sponsored initiative of SPUR

Together, we advocated for increased affordability of building electrification technology like smart A/Cs or heat pumps, and helped support Senator Becker's legislation to solve the massive interconnection problem by helping utilities to do their job and get homes and businesses connected to the grid - which successfully passed.

Bridging science, technology, and policy is how we get results on our climate and housing crisis — and its how we'll get results in District 5.
"Bilal is a progressive leader who will get results.

I saw his leadership firsthand in leading statewide initiatives to reduce carbon emissions in households when we partnered on his nonprofit Electric Action, and his unique ability to bridge coalitions across technology and policy and labor led to real climate legislation being passed. This is the leadership we need in San Francisco."

—Saikat Chakrabarti, Coauthor of the Green New Deal
