Americans watched this past weekend as a lone gunman attempted to assassinate Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A bystander lost his life while protecting his wife and daughters from rounds shot into the crowd. While we cannot avoid our tragic history of political violence in our nation, we can resolve to continue the work to protect and expand our democracy and to stop the forces of fascism that promote political violence and threaten our republic.
