Families of school shooting victims call out Marco Rubio for saying God protected Trump
Families of school shooting victims — including those in Parkland, Florida, where 14 high school students and 3 school staff members were brutally gunned down in 2018 — were more than a little upset when Republican senator and bona fide MAGA goon Marco Rubio proclaimed on nüTwitter that "God protected Trump" in Pennsylvania following the failed assassination attempt. Rubio is far from alone in professing God singled Trump out and selectively spared his life, of course. A chorus of craven, self-serving Republicans rushed to claim divine intervention, the ultimate "f*ck you" to the thousands of families who lose loved ones to senseless gun violence in America every goddamn year. There simply is no bottom with the GOP.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump goes off the deep end with unhinged message in shooting aftermath
Like clockwork, the media fell over itself to surmise that this moment would usher in a new, conciliatory tone by Donald Trump. It did not.

Trump circus rolls into must-win Wisconsin
WisDems: Trump knows that “we win Wisconsin and we win the whole thing,” so he and his cronies are cruising into Milwaukee in a transparent attempt to buy favor with voters. Wisconsin Democrats are working overtime to make sure that Trump doesn’t carry this critical battleground state, building a get-out-the-vote grassroots organization that will tip the scales — and the state — to President Biden, Senator Baldwin, and the Democratic Party! Will you chip in to help WisDems stop Trump and protect our nation from four more years of MAGA chaos?
Cops saw Trump rally shooter nearly 30 minutes before he fired
In deeply troubling yet not terribly surprising news, local police officers at Donald Trump’s Saturday rally reportedly spotted Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old who shot the MAGA cult leader in the ear, on a roof near the rally grounds nearly 30 minutes before he opened fire. A member of Beaver County’s emergency services unit spotted Crooks on a nearby roof at 5:45 pm Saturday — and even took a photo of the man before alerting other nearby officers. But when someone was finally dispatched to locate the would-be assassin, they reportedly could not find him — and 26 minutes later, Crooks fired eight shots, killing one rally attendee, wounding two other attendees, and injuring Trump. Incredulously, Crooks had also been noted by another officer earlier in the day and flagged as a suspicious person. Somebody has a lot of explaining to do.

Fox News' Brit Hume suggests JD Vance got the VP nod because he "sucked up effectively" to Trump
While the MAGA cult leader laughably claimed that JD Vance was "the person best suited to assume the position" of president in a theoretical second Trump administration, none other than Fox News analyst Brit Hume wondered aloud if maybe Vance was simply the best at kissing the MAGA cult leader's behind. Quite the pivot from Vance's past comments on Trump, who he once called "America's Hitler."

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says Democrat who claims party is resigned to a Trump win should "retire"
The progressive New York congresswoman forcefully called for the retirement of an anonymous Democratic lawmaker who said the party is resigned to a victory by Donald Trump this November. “We've all resigned ourselves to a second Trump presidency,” an unnamed senior House Democrat told Axios on Sunday, a day after the MAGA cult leader survived as attempted assassination. Soon afterward, Ocasio-Cortez responded to the comment on X. “If you're a ‘senior Democrat’ that feels this way, you should absolutely retire and make space for true leadership that refuses to resign themselves to fascism,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
300,000 in Houston still without power amid brutal heatwave after Beryl
Texas' catastrophic deregulation of its electricity infrastructure continues to torment and torture its residents, almost as if by design. Not unlike the historic 2021 winter storms that brought large swaths of Texas' woefully ill-equipped utility grid to its proverbial knees, Hurricane Beryl has exacted hellish living conditions on hundreds of thousands of residents in and around Houston, who are suffering through brutal summer heat indexes well over 100 degrees without electricity, more than a week after the Category 1 storm made landfall. GOP Gov. Greg Abbott, who was traipsing around southeast Asia when Beryl struck, tried to pin the blame solely on CenterPoint Energy, the region’s primary utility company, but the truth is, Republicans set the stage for the cataclysmic and all-too-predictable failure. A deregulated, for-profit electric grid's primary purpose is generating profit for shareholders, not providing reliable electricity to its millions of customers. CenterPoint certainly deserves the withering criticism it is receiving. But the company is playing by the rules — or lack thereof — written by its Republican enablers in the state legislature. It's really that simple.

Widow of Trump rally shooting victim declines phone call with President Biden, has not yet heard from Trump
Helen Comperatore, the widow of the 50-year-old man who was shot and killed at Donald Trump's Pennsylvania pep rally on Saturday, declined President Biden's phone call to express his sympathies. "I didn't want to talk to him. My husband was a devout Republican and he would not have wanted me to talk to [Biden]." Despite desperate attempts by Republicans to point the finger at Biden for Saturday's assassination attempt, Comperatore would not take the bait. "I'm not one of those people that gets involved in politics," she said. "I support Trump, that’s who I’m voting for, but I don't have ill-will towards Biden. He didn't do anything to my husband. A 20-year-old despicable kid did." Comperatore also noted she had not yet heard from Trump following her husband's tragic killing.
JD Vance declares UK an "Islamist country" in mind-numbingly stupid nuclear weapons comment
Well, that didn't' take long. Vance, the 39-year-old self-serious nincompoop Donald Trump tapped to be his new No. 2, wasted exactly no time proving to be a terrible choice for America and, well, the world. While speaking at a right-wing conference last week, Vance said he had been wondering which “truly Islamist country” would be the first to gain access to nuclear weapons. "I was talking about, you know, what is the first truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon?" he said. "Maybe it is Iran, maybe Pakistan already kind of counts, and then we finally decided that it’s actually the UK — since Labour just took over." Well, there you have it!
