Actions for the week of July 15, 2024
Hello Activists!
Hope everyone is having a good start to their week despite the soaring temperatures. Here are some actions to take to bring the heat to those responsible for damaging our climate. Stay hydrated and activated! 💦💪
Action 1
🛑🌍🛢️ Learn more about EACOP and how to stop it
📆 Thursday, July 25 • 1:00 – 9:00 pm
📍 32 Bridge Street, #301, Brooklyn (Map)
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline, which will run from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga in Tanzania and is a direct threat to the environment and people, has been the center of controversy globally, following sustained opposition by community members and climate activists alike.
Join a diverse coalition of climate justice groups including 350, Climate Defenders, Black Hive, Green Faith, DRUM, and others in DUMBO on Thursday, July 25 from 1:00 -9:00 pm to learn more about the STOP EACOP campaign. There will be an art build, speakers, discussion and planning for future actions!
Here is a documentary on the dangers of EACOP if you want to learn more.
Action 2
🗽✋📃 Tell Governor Hochul & DEC: Deny air permits for “Iroquois pipeline compressors”
Governor Hochul and her Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) are reviewing a proposal to build more fracked gas pipeline infrastructure in New York: the so-called “Iroquois Enhancement by Compression Project.” If approved, the project would increase the amount of fracked gas that gets transported to New York City by doubling the size of FOUR polluting compressor stations that endanger local communities’ health and safety.
Send a comment to the Governor and the Department of Environmental Conservation, urging them to deny the permit to expand pipeline compression stations!
Action 3
🌬️☀️🔌 Call on Governor Hochul: Build 15 GW of Public Renewables for a Green New York!
Cleaner air. Lower energy bills. Green union jobs. A safer climate for future generations. Those are the promises of building publicly-owned renewable energy. One problem: Governor Kathy Hochul wants to leave it to the for-profit corporations, even though they’ve cancelled 70% of the renewable energy projects announced in the last decade.
It’s up to us to pressure Hochul and New York Power Authority leadership to begin the biggest buildout of public renewable energy in history. Email the governor to demand the Green New York we deserve.
Bonus Action
