Dear John,
Supporters like you keep ADL on the front lines, keeping Jewish and other marginalized communities safe by empowering people with the tools they need to address this age-old hate.
In ADL’s long 111-year history, many heroes have played an invaluable role in all that we have achieved together.
One story I’m reminded of happened in the late 1960s to a longtime ADL volunteer and supporter.
It was late on a Friday night, and the night a school-aged Sherrie G. normally slept over at her cousin’s home. But those plans changed after an underground FBI informant who had infiltrated the KKK at ADL’s request delivered a distressing message about a violent scheme the hate group was plotting.
The FBI alerted Sherrie’s uncle that the KKK had planned to bomb his house that night in retaliation for him offering a reward for the capture of the person responsible for a recent bombing at their synagogue.
Thanks to ADL supporters, instead of finding Sherrie and her family asleep in the house that night, the would-be KKK bombers found FBI agents there to meet and arrest them. A car chase ensued ending with the bombers crashing. One perished. One went to jail.
John, thank you for being a valued part of the ADL community.
