Team —

Donald Trump is using irresponsible and inflammatory rhetoric to pressure leaders across the country to prematurely reopen our economy in the middle of this pandemic, which has already taken the lives of tens of thousands of Americans, and before the health crisis is fully addressed.

Our Republican opponent, Jason Lewis, is following the President’s marching orders by making a dangerous decision to resume in-person campaign events and ignore social distancing guidelines, endangering the lives of our health care professionals, our first responders, our seniors, and countless others.

At the “Liberate Minnesota” rally last Friday, Jason Lewis was shaking hands with protestors and encouraging people to take action in ways that endanger the health of others.

But that’s not all — our Republican opponent has downplayed the seriousness of the virus from the start, comparing it to the flu, and calling it a “wintertime sickness.”

Jason Lewis’ blatant disregard for the expertise of public health experts is dangerous.

The truth is that Minnesota’s leaders are taking measures that are working — stay-at-home policies have helped us slow down the spread of the virus. We will only be able to get through this and reopen our economy safely if we continue to listen to the experts on how best to respond.

Jason Lewis’ actions are an insult to Minnesotans working on the frontlines of this crisis and to our leaders working hard to flatten the curve. His decision also makes one thing crystal clear: Lewis’ irresponsible leadership has no place in the U.S. Senate.

If it makes financial sense for you, please make a contribution to Tina Smith’s re-election campaign to keep Jason Lewis out of the Senate. We must ensure our state continues to elect responsible leaders who will take this pandemic seriously — not endanger our lives and our economy.
