Hi John, I’m Ami – a political campaigner here at Greenpeace. Two weeks ago we saw a historic change: after 14 years, we elected a government who put climate action as a priority. You may be excited, you may feel nervous for what’s to come – but with change comes opportunity. And I’m excited for the opportunities we now have to achieve real progress.

Together, we’ve campaigned for bold climate action. But I won't lie, the past few years have been difficult. Climate policies have been scrapped and new fossil fuel projects approved. We’ve fought against relentless attempts to turn net zero into a culture war – as if the very future of our planet wasn’t at stake.

Now things have changed. We’ve got a huge opportunity to rise to the enormous challenges we face – and secure concrete wins for climate and nature.

But we need your help. For the next five years, we’ll continue to push this government to be bold and ambitious, but we need committed donors to stand with us. Monthly gifts help us plan for the long term. So John, can I count on you to stand with us today and keep the pressure up?

This is a huge opportunity and we must make the most of this moment. Starmer’s government have made a promising start – confirming they will scrap the dangerous Rwanda deportation plan [1], and lifting the ridiculous ban on onshore wind farms last week [2]. They’ve also said they’ll scrap plans for a controversial coal mine in Cumbria – another major environmental win [3].

These changes are hugely hopeful – the first of many much-needed steps to protect people and the planet. But we know we need much, much more. And if we’re to avoid the most devastating effects of climate change, we need to push this government to go further, and act faster, than any government before.

This is a crucial time for our country, and our planet. These early wins show that change is possible, and now is the time to push for even bolder action.

John, we must keep campaigning if we want to secure the changes we all voted for, but we can't do it alone. Will you please set up a monthly gift today? It takes less than 2 minutes:

We know Labour’s manifesto had some glaring holes in it [4]. In the midst of these exciting early wins, we can’t just take the pressure off and give Labour a free pass.

Our election manifesto ranking showed Labour’s climate commitments outperforming the Conservatives by a mile – but they still came up short on some key issues [4]. We still need to push them to:

  • Tackle sewage pollution in our rivers and seas
  • Invest in cheap public transport and insulating homes
  • Tax the polluting elite and create more jobs in the clean energy sector
  • Take bold action to reduce plastic pollution

These changes will have huge benefits for all of us – improving people’s everyday lives, boosting the economy and restoring nature in the UK. But they won’t happen unless we keep fighting for them.

So please support our work today and help build a brighter tomorrow. Every pound you can give will help us speak to decision-makers and push for the bold changes we all want to see.

Thanks for all you do.

Ami McCarthy

Political Campaigner

P.S. We’ve had feedback from politicians that our climate and nature briefings and policy expertise really make a difference in their decision-making. Will you help keep this work going with a monthly gift? We’re financially independent and rely on generous people like you to keep our work going.
